Yoga for Your Nerves.

July 21, 2020 By elle

21 Jul

Hi Everyone, as promised your new gentle practice is below. We had some technical difficulties with the sound so you may notice a slight telephone operator quality to my voice and an occasional wind noise seemingly coming from nowhere. Just part of the charm of videos from Elle and Brett’s former dining nook.

Love you guys!

Newsletter for week of July 20th

What is easy is sustainable. Birds coast when they can.
~Adrienne Maree Brown, Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds

Hi Everyone,

First of all thank you for all of your patience with the registration process. I finally have some answers for you! You can continue registering with me by letting me know you’re coming. I’ll confirm that there’s a space for you. Yes, you can pre-register through August. Payment still happens through Infinity. If you’re not sure if you still have classes on your card, just register and come and I’ll let you know how many you have left. Easy Peasy.

If you register and can’t make it, please give me at least 24 hours notice. It’s quite possible we’ll have a waiting list some weeks. Of course, if you wake up with Covid symptoms, don’t come, all will be forgiven and refunded.

This Thursday morning at 7:15am I’m teaching a Yin class over Zoom via Root River. Click here to register. If the $15 drop in rate is cost-prohibitive, there’s an option to just donate what you can. Email me with any questions.

For those of you who are practicing via video, a new video will be in your inboxes tomorrow. Brett was dealing with an injury on Friday and not able to make it to class. I didn’t have it together to record solo, though we have figured out how I can do this if there’s a next time. We have recorded a gentle class including some opportunities to take care of your sciatic, femoral, and median nerves, inspired by the teachings of Tiffany Cruikshank, one of the founders of yogamedicine.com.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we figure this all out. As I look forward to this fall when Friday classes will need to come indoors and potentially we’ll be adding in a Wednesday class, one thing we need to think about is the time. On Wednesday and Friday we’d need to start at 8am to accommodate Lynn’s class. What do you think, should we just move all the class times to make it consistent? Do you like the extra 15 minutes of sleep on Monday?

So much Love,

Elle

Yoga with Elle Newsletter Week of July 13th

July 12, 2020 By elle

12 Jul

No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.
~Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own

hand made masks with the words, "Don't forget your mask on Monday!"

Hi Everyone,

For the first time in months I’m including an actual yoga class schedule in this Newsletter which feels great! You’ll notice right now we don’t have Wednesday morning classes, I simply don’t have room in my schedule right now.  However, most weeks I’ll also be recording a gentle or basic class.

To this end, I have been studying how yoga postures support our nervous system. My plan was to be ready to record this weekend and have it to you on Monday, however that hasn’t been a reality. For now you have access to the Sinclair recording we made on Friday and I will get you this new class next week.

Many people have been asking about registration for Infinity classes. As I write this I don’t have links to share or answers about specifics. I will share them with you as soon as I have them, for now please just let me know if you’re coming and I’ll confirm that there’s room. I will let you know at the time of class how many punches you have left on your card, and you can purchase a new one through Infinity if need be.

So much Love,

Elle

Yoga with Elle Newsletter for Week of July 6th

July 6, 2020 By elle

6 Jul

If you do not tell the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other people.
~Virginia Woolf

Hi Everyone,

In this heat, I’m finding it easier to go slow. I’m remembering my training on teaching in heated conditions. Remember to stay hydrated! Remember Ujjayi breath—we want our bodies heated internally as well as externally. Remember the cooling breath, I’ll teach that this week if you don’t know it, to keep yourself from overheating. Remember to take care of yourselves.

This week at our outdoor Sinclair practice we were visited by a neighbor’s lawnmower at the end. Due to Brett’s sound editing those of you practicing with the recording won’t be bothered by it, but you will notice me looking behind me at the lawnmower. In retrospect I’m unclear why I thought looking at him sternly through my sunglasses would help.

Our other video is a Basics class with an emphasis on Sun Salutations. I love breaking down the salutation so much… as I’m sure you know! I concentrated less on shoulder support than usual, to make room for other things such as lengthening the low back in cobra. I experimented with a do-it-yourself version of a Forrest assist. This assist actually feels really good, but is not easy to include in a physical class anyways because of the potential awkwardness… well you’ll see. 🙂 Reach out to me with questions.

Root River Yogis, many of you are getting bolsters this week. Congrats! We’ll set a date for a special Thursday morning Yin class now that I know most of you are geared appropriately. Meanwhile in all of my Root River Zoom classes, I’ll include more warm down/cool down poses at the end of class that utilize bolsters. If you don’t have a bolster don’t worry! You can substitute other pillows, and if this doesn’t sound fun to you, you can always contact Amanda and see if there are any of her bolsters left.

I realized this morning that Heather had sent her Newsletter out last night, you’ll notice if you look on the schedule that my class isn’t listed. This is simply because Heather and I haven’t had a chance to talk and iron out the details. Assuming that we do get a chance to talk this week, I’ll start next Monday. Thanks for your patience!

So much Love,

Elle

Yoga with Elle Week of June 29th

June 29, 2020 By elle

29 Jun

Things which do not grow and change are dead things.
~Loiuse Erdrich

dandylion gone to seed just beginning to blow in soft light.

Hi Everyone,

As promised I have two more videos for you below. One is a fascial release, Yin-inspired practice, and the other is some fun inversions. My original plan was to record them both one right after the other, but I found I was so chill after the Yin practice I just didn’t have it in me to pop up and teach an inversion class. Which is just as well, the inversion class was so fun to record today. If you watch all the way to the end there’s even some bonus material! 🙂

Heather has very understandably asked me to wait to pass on Infinity Covid protocols until she’s provided the updated version. And I’m still unsure how registration and payment will work. So unfortunately I can’t let you know exactly when we’re beginning classes. I’ve mentioned a date to a few of your in our private conversations and now I have to let you know nothing is actually set yet and I got ahead of myself. Sorry! I will let you know as soon as I do!

Though a few of you have expressed excitement about practicing indoors, some of you are not ready yet, some of you are waiting to hear more about safety protocols, and some of you prefer to practice via video at this point. This is all ok! When I can, I will add a class, but for now I will continue to teach Fridays outside at Sinclair. I’ll also continue to record the outdoor practices, as well as some extra gentle and basic practices that rely more on props or prop-like substitutes.

This week you can join me in person at Sinclair on Friday at 8:15am (the weather looks great!), or Zoom with me via Root River Yoga Wednesday evening at 6pm or Thursday morning at 7:15am. As always keep reaching out and letting me know how I can better support your yoga practice!

I’ve been thinking of all of you and how fortunate I am to have you in my life. Thank you so much for the inspiration to keep practicing and teaching. And thank you to everyone who has supported me financially and other ways during this time. There aren’t words to express how much this has all meant.

So much Love,

Elle

Yoga with Elle Newsletter Week of June 22nd

June 22, 2020 By elle

22 Jun

Being human is not hard because you’re doing it wrong, it’s hard because you’re doing it right.
~Glennon Doyle, Untamed

Hi Everyone,

Hope this finds you well. I’ve been thinking of you, and not just because I owe you yoga videos! As promised, I have two new videos for you. Last Friday’s outdoor practice was recorded, and there’s also a gentle indoor class.

We’ll be in Sinclair park again on Friday at 8:15am.

Heather is planning on opening Infinity Studio soon. If there is interest in an indoor practice I will add in an Infinity class Monday at 8:15am. I will still be teaching outside and recording so there is no pressure for anyone to return indoors before they’re ready. I’m sure you’ll be hearing from Heather soon with a more complete list of all the precautions we’ll be taking. I’ve included what I know below so you can start thinking about this. Please feel free to reach out to me or Heather at Infinity with any questions.

Love,

Elle

Things I know about practicing at Infinity

  • Pre-register, class size is limited.
  • Bring your own mat, but only bring your mat. No other props are allowed.
  • Wear masks to come and go, masks aren’t required during practice.
  • Water with paper cups are there for your use.
  • Plan on showing up around 8:15am and leaving at 9:15am. The idea is to limit the time we all spend together to an hour. Class will be slightly shortened to accommodate this.
  • The studio will be disinfected before and after class by teachers.
  • No sign in; payment and registration will happen through the office.
  • Look for communication from Infinity Yoga Studio for complete list!
